Osprey Bottle Misfit: A Nesting Problem in the Crusader Cup

Osprey Bottle does not nest properly in the Crusader Cup?

There are some who have difficulty fitting the Osprey bottle into the Crusader cup.
My set had such a problem.

The steel cup of mine is stamped 2009, and the bottle, 2010.  The bottle would not go into the cup all the way, but stop, leaving about an inch of space inside the cup.

I saw a couple of posts at Bushcraft U.K., complaining about the same problem.

I commented on a couple of You Tube posts how one could fix the nesting problem, and I would like to repeat it here.  Here is how I did it:

  1. Heat the bottle over a flame carefully, and force the bottle into the steel cup.
  2. Repeat, gradually increasing the exposure to the heat.
  3. When you feel the bottle bottoming out inside the cup, fill the bottle with the cold tap water, and run it all over the cup and the bottle, while the bottle is still inside the cup.

Repeat the above as needed.  Or:
  1. You could boil water in the Crusader cup and dump the boiling water into the bottle
  2. Shove the bottle into the cup.
  3. Let both the cup and the bottle sit for a while and then empty the bottle and fill with cold water, while the bottle is still inside the cup.
  4. Run the cold water all over, to harden the bottle and shrink it.
You will now have a perfectly nesting Osprey bottle.
Why hadn't I thunk this up already?

Enjoy your Nato Crusader Set, now it nests perfectly.
